Personal Letters from the Field

Group of 10 letters from ship’s surgeon Aaron S. Oberly of the US Gunboat Kineo to his wife over the course of several months in 1862. The Kineo was part of Admiral Farragut’s river fleet, which participated in numerous battles to include running to Forts St. Philip and Jackson below New Orleans, Battle of Baton Rouge, Battle of Fort Butler in Donaldsonville, Battle and Siege of Port Hudson, and others. Available for sale as a group or as an individual item. All but two letters have their envelope. Letters speak of wartime experience, New Orleans levee system, nightlife, and the state of the soldiers on board.  (kb7642200) $2650 for group, Individual letters are listed below by dates.
